The South Pembrokeshire Hunt branch of the Pony Club recently held their Annual Party and Awards Presentation. It has been a very successful year for the branch which has seen membership rise to over 70 riders. This year, South Pembs. has also enjoyed great success in area competitions. The Novice dressage team did superbly to win the area competition and qualify for the nationals. Both the Junior and Minimus eventing teams also won the area, and the Minimus show jumping teams came first and third in the area and the Junior dressage team came second in the area. Meanwhile, more riders than ever have represented the branch in a range of activities from the National Pony Club quiz through to triathlons and tetrathlons. Pony Club, however, is not just about competitions. In May, over 50 riders attended Pony Club Camp, which was one of the largest camps ever. Camp is a fun week for the riders when, as well as having instruction, they take part in pony club games and learn how to care for their ponies. During the year, many of the members have also been busy attending rallies and stable management sessions to train for achievement badges. At the party, numerous badges, certificates and rosettes were presented to members of all ages. The results were also announced for the annual team points competition. Well done to everyone! The annual District Commissioner's Cup was this year awarded to Felicity Grigg. It was a very hard decision as there were many deserving riders. Felicity, however, only joined Pony Club in 2007 and has shown great commitment and hard work, attending rallies regularly, competing in the Junior dressage team and is always polite and well presented. Congratulations Felicity. Following the presentations, members and their parents danced the night away to a local disco and everyone went home tired, but having had an excellent evening. This year, South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The branch is, therefore, keen for any old members or officials to get in contact, as there are lots of events scheduled for the year. The committee are also keen to collect old photographs and memorabilia for the celebrations.
