During half-term, 15 younger members from the South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club branch took part in a two-day tetrathlon training event in Cardigan, arranged by Tivyside Pony Club. This was organised to encourage more competitors to become involved in tetrathlon, and give riders the chance to experience the fun of this competition without the pressure of a full tetrathlon competition. It was also an excellent training opportunity for those already involved in tetrathlon. Over 30 competitors from across South West Wales took part in the minimus event for children aged eight-14 years. This involved shooting, swimming, running and cross country riding. Whilst a special mini-minimus event was organised for the under eights who are not allowed to shoot for safety reasons, and so instead they took part in a bean bag throwing competition! Competing for the first time in the minimus class were Charlie Andrews, James Davies, Faye Hilling, Holly Hilling, Billy Kinnear, Abigail Meyrick, Isobel Meyrick and Lorcan Williams, while the first timers in the mini-minimus were Lucy Davies and Emma Morgan. They were joined by regular minimus team members Edward Andrews, Tom Kinnear, Fred Meyrick, Anna Morgan and Ele Scourfield. All the competitors really enjoyed themselves and did extremely well, recording some very high scores. The branch also enjoyed individual success in each of the four disciplines. At the end, winners' rosettes were awarded to the winners of each discipline, and all the riders were presented with a rosette and certificates for taking part. All the riders would like to thank team manager Julie Roach once again for all her hard work, as a result of which the tetrathlon team has increased from a handful of riders to well over 20 becoming involved this year. Riders from the branch will be competing in a tetrathlon at The David Broome Centre in Chepstow in November and a triathlon in Ledbury in December, before the winter triathlon series begins again in Carmarthen in January. It is now hoped after the success at this training event, that more riders than ever will become involved in future competitions. The branch would like to remind all members that the table-top tack sale is taking place this (Friday) evening at 6.30 pm at Carew Village Hall. The event is open to non-members, so please come along.
