The South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club branch was recently invited by the South Pembrokeshire Hunt to join them to exercise the hounds and for a barbecue at the newly-refurbished hunt kennels in Cresselly. For many of the children, this was an excellent opportunity to learn more about hunting before the season starts. The South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club has had a close relationship with the local foxhounds since the branch was established in 1958 by the late Mrs. Auriol Harrison Allen, of Cresselly, who was Master of the South Pembrokeshire Hunt from 1942-1988. Her son, Mr. Hugh Harrison Allen, himself an ex- member of pony club, is now Master of the Foxhounds and also the president of South Pembrokeshire Hunt Pony Club. The relationship between pony club and the hunt continues as many hunt members and supporters actually came through pony club! Furthermore, a growing number of the current pony club riders are now enjoying hunting during the winter with the South Pembrokeshire foxhounds. Around 25 members of pony club, along with their parents and friends, took part in the bicycle ride exercising the hounds around Cresselly. They were then shown around the kennels and treated to a barbecue. They had a wonderful evening! All the children would like to thank Mr. Hugh Harrison Allen and Mrs. Diane Jones, Joint Masters of the Hunt, and Huntsman Mr. Simon Jones and Mr. Tom Summons for organising the evening. They would also like to thank the ladies who braved the wet weather to cook the barbecue. Many of the children are now looking forward to joining the hunt for children's meet in October. Pony club members are now busy preparing for their Hunter Trials which are due to take place on September 9 in Llanfallteg. There are classes for all ages and abilities and schedules can be obtained from most tack shops or by contacting Dawn Harris on 01646 651320.
