The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority have given assurances that work is progressing well on the development at the former Fountains Café on South Beach.

Rumours have been rife in the town that the scheme, which comprises of 19 apartments, split over two blocks with a café-restaurant, had been put on hold, leaving the development delayed until the summer of 2012.

Members of Tenby Town Council had also voiced their concern that adequate access to the beach was not being provided, as the developers had temporarily closed off the walkway from the Esplanade.

However, a temporary ramp for public access was opened over the weekend and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority confirmed this week that work on the scheme was continuing.

"The development on Tenby's South Beach is progressing well, work is being monitored and it is anticipated that a retaining wall onto the beach will be completed before the start of the main holiday season," a spokesperson for the authority told the Observer.

Clerk to the town council, Mr. Andrew Davies, also confirmed that the Park Authority's enforcement officer, Keith Halpin, was keeping the council updated on the work as he was visiting the site on a weekly basis.
