As one of her final duties as the current SI Tenby president, Dilys Jenkinson, accompanied by social secretary Eleanor Parker, last week presented Maria Evans with a cheque to assist with the running of Tinker's Hill Bird Sanctuary. Tinker's Hill is one of president Dilys's two nominated charities in her year of office, the other being the Paul Sartori Foundation.

Tenby Soroptimists have raised a considerable amount for local charities and organisations throughout the year, through such events as the charity dinner, an autumn craft fair, a charity fashion show, a quiz night and numerous coffee mornings. The club would like to thank everyone for their support at all their fundraising events.

For many years, Maria Evans and her family have been actively engaged in rescuing, rehabilitating and, whenever possible, releasing wildlife. Tinker's Hill is constantly striving to maintain and improve the facilities to house the permanent residents - those birds that have been too badly injured to survive in the wild - and also for treatment and rehabilitation. The sanctuary is entirely funded by the Evans family and the generosity of the public.

President Dilys was delighted to be able to make this donation to such a worthwhile local cause.
