SI Tenby and District held their annual charity lunch at the Giltar Hotel on Sunday, March 17, in support of Arthritis Research UK.
The event was very well supported and nearly 80 guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal in the hotel's beautifully presented dining room with its spectacular views of the South Beach, the headland and Caldey Island.
During dessert, 'Sacsaffonnics', a group of very talented young musicians from local schools, entertained the diners with a medley of familiar tunes.
Afterwards, guest speaker Suzanna Davies, a clinical nurse specialist from the Department of Rheumatology at Withybush Hospital, gave a fascinating insight into the work of the rheumatology team.
People with arthritis have many different needs and the rheumatology nurse specialist works with all kinds of arthritis-related conditions, providing expert support and help concerning both diagnosis and appropriate treatment, as well as discussing how to minimise the emotional impact of the condition both at home and in the workplace.
Carwen Wynne Jones, the Soroptimist International procedures consultant, then gave a vote of thanks to both Suzanna and the club, remarking that SI Tenby and District was a small club with a very large heart.
This was certainly proven to be true as the event raised nearly £900 for Arthritis Research UK.
This organisation funds more than 250 current grants into all types of arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions, including exciting work into stem cell therapies for osteoarthritis, improving joint replacement surgery and the development of anti-TNF therapy which has revolutionised the treatment of inflammatory arthritis worldwide.
Thanks are extended to president Judy Brew and her team for all their hard work, as well as to SI Tenby treasurer Rosemary Proctor for collating all the various donations so that a cheque can be presented to a representative from Arthritis Research UK in the near future.
Finally, a special thank you to Malcolm, Patrick and their staff at the Giltar Hotel for making this charity lunch such a spectacular success.
