A YOUNG local singer and performer scooped a prestigious songwriting award at a talent show held in London at the weekend. Thirteen-year-old Grace Scourfield, daughter of Sue and Mike Scourfield, of Carew Cheriton, picked up the prize at the 'Festival 4 Stars National Songwriting Finals' held at the Grange City Hotel, after entering her song 'Tell Me Why'. Granddaughter of Ken and Mary Scourfield, of Carew Cheriton, and Mrs. Dilys Davies and the late Rev. Alun Davies, of Newtown, Powys, Grace is a current pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland and a former pupil of Netherwood and Saundersfoot schools. She also attends Swansea Stagecoach Theatre Arts School and has performed many times at the Grand Theatre in Swansea and the Afon Lido in Port Talbot, as part of the Stagecoach Singing Troupe in such shows as Peter Karrie and Friends, Westenders and A Night at the Musicals. Competing against entrants in their 20s, Grace's latest success comes after recently winning a 'Stars in your Eyes' competition held at the Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Pembroke Dock, a show organised to raise funds for the Martin Roberts Children's Charity. Her winning song was written after the horrific London bombing. Gracie was particularly moved by this as, around that time, she and her family were often travelling back and for using the underground. As part of her prize, Grace has been awarded an all expenses paid session in a recording studio, working with top professionals, who will produce the record and present it to a record label.

Grace Scourfield receives her prize from music producer and song writer, Nicky Graham.
