Sir,
I would like you to put PCC priorities to one side for just one minute and take stock of how the proposed Tenby civic amenity relocation plans will impact residents and businesses of Saundersfoot.
The first and main opportunity to showcase Saundersfoot and Tenby to potential tourists after a long and winding journey is the thoroughfare into this wonderful part of Pembrokeshire, the A478. I recall an Objective One grant some years back to improve many property walls along this route to support our assets. Is this now to be 'further enhanced' by a civic amenity depot!
Sounds like something dreamt up by the enemy of business and residents, not our loving, caring council, who have protected us from supermarket developments on the same route! If this site does get approval, we must also accept that the site is 'state of the art and will be ideal for future expansion'.
I am no council planning expert, but just a suggestion or four to consider:
• Relocating Celvac to a new site in the Salterns and using the additional land to bring the existing site to 'state of the art' status.
• Develop a larger site at the Salterns further down the road. It is after all, already designated as an industrial estate - or has there been a significant objection?
• Perhaps a 'plan B' between Kilgetty and Narberth - surely the council could find a suitable discrete location somewhere away from tourist routes, businesses and residents along this stretch of road
• Invest further in waste removal and recycling of the domestic weekly bin 'pick up' service - then perhaps we could keep things as they are at the current location in Tenby
After all, life is about making compromises. If council members think Brooklands ticks all the right boxes following their 'rigorous assessment of possible sites', then isn't there a box for: tourists' first impression and lasting impact; unnecessary traffic loading particularly on weekends with peak tipping and tourist travel activity - leading to potential costly future highway modifications and disruption; surrounding resident and business wellbeing impact.
Mark Joyce,
Concerned resident
of Saundersfoot.
