A satisfactory outcome to a pollution problem in Narberth is still being sought. As reported in last week's Observer, heavy rainfall had caused foul water to run into the storm drain at Narberth Bridge and be discharged into the river. A meeting, chaired by the town's county councillor, Wynne Evans, was held on site on Wednesday, when representatives of the Environment Agency Wales, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Carmarthenshire County Council, who are contractors to Dwr Cymru, Pembrokeshire County Council's planning department, Narberth Town Council, together with farmers who have land adjoining Narberth River, thrashed out their concerns. "A number of questions were put to the agencies," said Clr. Evans. "We were informed that the level of sewage at Narberth Bridge River is on storm flow only and is seen to be acceptable by the agencies," he continued. "Even though we were presented with facts and figures, I find the situation unacceptable." An invitation is now being sent to the Environment Agency and Dwr Cymru to attend a meeting of Narberth Town Council and address councillors and members of the public. "I am not happy with what was said and find it totally out of order to see toxic waste and sewage floating down stream," added Clr. Evans, who is now awaiting a date for the council meeting. Concerns about the over-development of Narberth were also raised and answered by the planning officers, who will also be invited to attend a meeting of the town council to address the matter.
