Perfect conditions greeted the second annual Andrew Price /Tenby Round Table Soccer Sevens recently.

Thirty-six teams from around the county and as a far as Cardiff, Cwmbran, Newport, Carmarthen, Caerphilly and Swansea battled for the trophies in three age groups - Under 8s, 10s and 12s.

The format was two pools of six teams, in each age group, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals and the winners of these contesting the finals.

After all the pool games had been played, the four teams through to the Under 8s semi-final were Clarbeston Road 'A' and 'B', Tenby '7' and Hakin. The first semi game saw Hakin beat Tenby '7' by five goals to nil, while the second semi was won by Clarbeston Road 'A', who beat their 'B' side by two goals to nil.

The exciting final was won by Hakin by three goals to nil and the player of the final, selected by the referee, was Hakin's Jack Wilson.

The Under 10s tournament was equally as exciting, with Tenby '10', Prendergast Villa, Kilgetty and Albion Rovers from Cwmbran, all progressing to the semi-finals.

The first semi was between Tenby '10' and Albion Rovers, which saw the Cwmbran team win five-one. Albion Rovers were the outstanding team of the tournament and Tenby '10' had the distinction of scoring the only goal against them. The second semi saw Kilgetty beat Prendergast Villa in a very good game. The final of this group was won by Albion Rovers, who beat a valiant Kilgetty five-nil. The player of this final was Ben Jones of Albion Rovers.

Both the Under 12s semi-finals were very close and any two of the four teams could have gone through. However, Tenby 'Stripes' and Camrose both edged out Kilgetty and St. Clears one-nil and two-nil respectively.

This final was just as close, but the Tenby 'Stripes' just edged Camrose two-nil and the player of the final was Adam John of Tenby.

This year saw the start of a girls tournament, held on the Sunday, and hopefully this will build up to the same proportion as the boys competition. The format was a straight round robin.

Winners of the Under 11s were Tenby, with Johnston in the runners-up place. In the Under 13s section, the fight for honours was between Manorbier and Tenby who had both won three and lost one, however, Tenby emerged winners by having the better goal difference. The Under 16s was also a two-horse race between the two big sides, Manorbier and Llanelli Reds.

Once again this came down to goal difference, with Manorbier scoring one more goal than the Reds.

All the trophies, which were sponsored by Andrew Price, were presented to the winners, runners-up and player of the final by Matthew Broadhurst, vice-chairman of Tenby Round Table.
