After last week's heroic victory over league leaders Merlins Bridge, it is back to the drawing board for Kilgetty after they lost 5-0 away at Goodwick.

The result gives extra significance to Norman James's team's away clash at fellow basement battlers Monkton tomorrow (Saturday), a game that will turn out to be the proverbial six-pointer.

Unsurprisingly, the visitors to Phoenix Park would have been confident of providing yet another upset against a team that has now taken over as the team to beat in this year's competition, yet it was evident even in the first half that this wasn't going to be the visitor's day.

Within 20 minutes they had lost the inspirational Josh Bevan who was hospitalised with a suspected broken ankle. Fortunately, it transpired to be heavy bruising only, yet his absence over the coming weeks will hit Kilgetty hard.

They were 2-0 down at the break, with both goals coming between the 20th and 30th minute and while they held Goodwick for the majority of the second, they conceded the final three goals in a crazy 10 minute period towards the end of the game.

A downbeat James had nothing but praise for the home side.

"They were pretty good to be fair to them. We had a few half chances but nothing to shout about. They were a well drilled team, very skilful and very physical and they were just too strong and too good on the day."

Narberth would have been confident of progressing through to the quarter-finals of the Senior Cup, especially given their West Wales Cup form has been so impressive yet they lost 3-2 away at Tenby and as a result, it is the home side that takes on Goodwick in the next round.

In an uneventful first half, the home side went into the break 1-0 up through Declan Carroll, although Narberth would have had no fears in drawing level in the second.

Unfortunately for them, the home side scored another soon after the break thanks to a Billy Vaughan goal, with Jordan Williams pulling once back for Narberth soon after.

Tenby cancelled this out with another score mid-way through the half as Callum Proctor proved he is nearing full fitness yet Justin Blewitt ensured an exciting finale was on the cards when he flew virtually horizontally on to the ball to head it home.

Narberth were denied a penalty soon after when they believed Jordan Williams was felled in the box but it wasn't given and with that, Narberth's hopes of taking it into extra time were gone.

"We deserved to go through to extra time," said manager Nigel Thomas. "If the first half was pretty dire, the second was anything but and it turned out to be a great game to watch. We're obviously disappointed but that's how it is. I'm proud of the way our team played but it wasn't to be."

St. Clears' manager Charlie Smith isn't one to use clichés when summing up his team's performances, yet even he was unable to come up with an alternative to the 'game of two halves' scenario that his team encountered on Saturday away at Angle.

Despite leading 3-0 at the break through a brace of goals from Eddie Wiggins and one by Colin Reynolds, somehow the Saints managed to secure a defeat after allowing the home side to run riot in the second.

"We capitulated," said Smith. "We were well on top in the first half, but once they came back to 3-3 there was only going to be one winner.

"We should have scored seven in the first half, such was our dominance but we didn't take our chances and allowed them back in. All credit to them too. It was a classic game of two halves and they came out better in the end. It was very disappointing."

For a club that has over 50 players signed on to their books, Pendine will be meeting tonight (Friday) to discuss whether to withdraw their seconds from the league.

For a variety of reasons, Saturday's home team encounter with St. Ishmaels was their first home game since the middle of November, yet even this couldn't motivate enough players to commit to the Gull's cause and they entered the fray with a much changed side from recent weeks.

The seconds couldn't raise a team to play Lawrenny away and the firsts were struggling for players too. Despite this, manager Frank Roberts couldn't praise the team that took the field enough, even though they lost 4-0.

"It was a different team from usual, but they performed really well and in fact, all of Tish's goals were scored from a distance as we closed them down.

"We had opportunities to score but they took them and we didn't."

In an even first half, the visitors went into the break 1-0 up, but eventually their superiority told and they proved too much for the home side in the second half.

Carew stalwart Paul Bullock is as fair with his appraisals off the field as he with his performances on it, yet even he was bemoaning the referee's performance on Saturday after his team drew 1-1 away at Letterston.

With Brian Hall scoring yet another goal for the Division Two strugglers, it looked as though a slender 1-0 win was on the cards yet when penalty was given after Bullock rose to head the ball in the second half, the chance for a rare victory was snatched from the visitor's grasp.

"We're having no luck at the moment and that typified it," fumed Bullock. "Both sides were bemused by some of the decisions but that took the biscuit. If that penalty wasn't given we would have taken the points but at least we got something from it but we desperately need some luck to move on from where we are. We're playing well enough at the moment but nothing seems to be going our way."

Daniel Bates is well thought at Saundersfoot and he enhanced his burgeoning reputation with a last minute header to help the Sports to a 3-3 draw at home to Hundleton.

In a sloppy first half, neither side claimed dominance and it was no surprise to see the teams tied 0-0 at half-time.

The second half was the total opposite as the Sports went 1-0 down early on yet drew level through Russell Evans.

A splendid 20 yard shot by Bates gave the home side a brief lead before this was cancelled out yet despite dominating for much of the half it was the visitors who went ahead as full-time loomed.

With the Sports looking down and out, Bates scored with a minute to go amid rapturous scenes.

"It felt like a win in the end," said Daryl John. "All in all we're pleased with the point but we played well enough to win it."

Manorbier United have found some form of late and they gained another Division Three win as they hammered Hakin seconds 5-0.

David Blackwell was the star of the show as he scored three, with Liam Robson and Paul Maytum adding the others.

Narberth seconds may have defeated Lawrenny 5-0 in the Division Three Cup last week, yet they couldn't repeat it against the same opponents in the league and the eventually went down 4-3.

The visitors to Jesse Road went ahead after 30 seconds through Tom Lewis, a goal that shocked Narberth to the core yet a Josh Layzell goal pulled them level soon after.

Narberth went behind mid-way through the half as Owen James got the first of his brace, but again drew level through Mark O'Sullivan before the visitors scored again prior to the break with yet another score from James.

It was all-square 10 minutes into the second half when Layzell scored his second, but the final goal came 20 minutes from time to end Narberth hopes of taking the points as Joe Kidney ensured the spoils went to the home side.

Despite the defeat, Bluebirds manager O'Sullivan was pragmatic about the loss.

"Some weeks you win others you don't. This week we lost."

In the first leg second round game in the Division Four Cup between Carew and Prendergast Villa, the home side enter the next phase with a slender 1-0 lead, while St. Florence also have a single goal lead as they defeated Milford Athletic 4-3 away.

Two goals from the prolific Ashley Smith and scores from Scott Smith and Steve Lunt ensured the win although the next leg will be even harder, despite home advantage.

In league action, Tenby seconds went down 3-1 at home to Johnston despite a Mo Safin score, while Spencer Hughes ensured Saundersfoot seconds grabbed at least a share of the points in their 2-2 draw away at West Dragons.

Finally, in Division Five, St. Clears' seconds endured a 6-0 defeat away at Hundleton, while a brace of goals by Duane Rossiter and one apiece from Luke Woods and Robbie Beynon allowed Kilgetty seconds the luxury of a 4-0 win over their counterparts from Neyland.
