The countdown to Tenby’s Christmas festivities has begun with a host of entertainment and a sprinkling of snow lined-up to welcome Santa into the town to turn on the lights.

Father Christmas will arrive in Tenby on Saturday, November 30, via the Inshore Lifeboat which will launch at 4 pm with Santa on board, before he and the RNLI crew bring him into a sure to be packed Tudor Square between 4.20 and 4.30 pm to switch on the lights

A meeting of the town’s Christmas Festivities committee last week confirmed that once again Tenby House Hotel will ensure that a flurry of snow will greet revellers to the town centre on the day.

DJ/Compere Steve Briers will be providing festive and popular music between the acts lined up throughout the afternoon, with the entertainment set to kick off at 1.30 pm with a performance from ‘The Seren Irish Dancers’, who will be followed by the ‘Salvation Army Band and Community Singers’ at 2 pm.

‘Kelly Williams School of Dance’ will perform at 2.30 pm, followed by talented ‘Modern’ Country Singer Laura Morgan at 3 pm.

Pembrokeshire’s own songstress Sam Skyrme will get everyone in a further festive spirit from 3.35 pm, right up until Santa hits the square.

Tenby town council have confirmed that a road closure has been granted for the event with traffic lights and signage to be put in place, and a letter drop to be carried out to all residents and businesses in High Street, Tudor Square and St Julian Street on November 15.

It has been agreed that while some tweaks may be needed to the day’s programme, the occasion will not be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

Town councillors recently agreed that instead of continuing to make piecemeal repairs to the existing Christmas lights, to commission a totally new scheme for the town to give it some extra special sparkle this festive season.

The bespoke scheme has been designed to cope with more extreme conditions experienced in coastal towns and will see new festoon lighting throughout the town, along with new crossroad displays in Tudor Square.

The council have also agreed to look at the possibilities of using the existing lights that are still operational to extend the lighting to areas outside of the town walls.

The project also includes a completely new set of lights for the town Christmas tree which overlooks Tudor Square from the grounds of St Mary’s Church.
