Participants will gather at Brynberian Hall at 1.30 pm and will then be led to the wood and asked to sleep (or pretend to sleep) for around 30 minutes while filming takes place. After the event all participants will be invited to return to Brynberian Hall for food, drink, live music from the band Redwing and dancing until around 9 pm. People who want to take part can 'phone 01348 891330 or email Ruth Jones at [email protected]">[email protected] to confirm their participation, stating the number of people in their party. Email confirmation of the event will be sent to participants a week before the filming date. Children aged 10 and over are very welcome, but under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This project will take place regardless of weather conditions! Participants need to be prepared to stand around a bit, wear warm clothes and bring a blanket or rug to lie on. Ruth has been living in our county for three years. She makes short films and public art projects that are concerned with the relationships between humans, animals and the land. She is particularly interested in the ways in which our identities can undergo transformation, hence her fascination with sleep and dreaming and the association of these states with enchantment in fairytales and myths. The sleeper in early western traditions is seen as a figure full of potential, 'the one who dreams the world into being'. Her project 'Sleepers', therefore aims to invite people to become a 'communal dreamer', in the ancient woodland of Tycanol, near Newport. The project 'Sleepers' has been funded by the Arts Council of Wales and is taking place in conjunction with Oriel Mwldan, Cardigan, where Ruth has a solo exhibition in January 2007. The film produced from this event will be screened as part of this exhibition.
