Pembrokeshire County Council's parking manager has informed members of Tenby Town Council that the authority would have no objection in principle to situating a temporary skate park at The Salterns site in the town, but only between the months of October and March.
In a letter to the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, Mr. Geoff Sutton said that all equipment would have to be removed from the car park facility during the April to September period.
Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, however, reiterated that she would prefer to see a permanent site chosen for such a park, to allow the facility to stand for 12 months a year, while Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter suggested looking into placing a skate park at Greenhill School as that would be ideal for youngsters' protection.
Clr. Mike Evans felt that if use of the Salters was explored for a skate park, to combat the loss of any car parking spaces, the town council could look into leasing the old cottage hospital site on a yearly basis for such possible use.
"The old hospital site needs to be brought into use; it's just lying there dormant and scruffy, " said Clr. Evans. "It needs using for the benefit of the people of Tenby.
"We could write to the county council asking them for an annual licence and look at ways of utilising the site on a short term basis," he added.
