Tenby councillors say that a recent meeting held for youngsters to put across their ideas for a skate park in the town was encouraging.
The meeting, held at Tenby Rugby Club recently, gave the chance for councillors to explain to some of the local skateboarders where they were at with plans to develop a skate park somewhere in the town.
Although councillors have hit a few snags with regards to finding suitable land for such a scheme, they also met last week with a surveyor from the county council at the Salterns site which has been identified as an area for a possible development.
Clr. Mike Evans told his colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council that a 250 square metre site with room for expansion was a possibility, and that the youngsters who were campaigning for the scheme had been encouraged to draw up various designs and identify the equipment that they wished to see used.
He said that the next step would be to submit an application for the site to the county council and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority to set the ball rolling.
Tenby's Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Julie Evans, had also attended the meeting and said that she was delighted with the positive discussions and feedback.
"It was a really upbeat meeting, with a lot of youngsters and parents coming along, and it was great to see the skateboarders so enthusiastic," she said.
"It also gave us the opportunity to show them that we are serious about developing this scheme and showed that there is such a need for multi-use play areas in the area," she said.
Clr. Mike Evans also encouraged people to join the Facebook campaign that the youngsters had set up under the group 'Tenby Skatepark Petition' where feedback and support could be given.
A further meeting for the campaign is due to be held at the Rugby Club tomorrow (Saturday).
