It is with great sadness that we report the death of six-year-old Morgan Hayes from Whitland.
Morgan passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning, in the arms of his mum, Sophie, dad, Ben, and family.
A post on the Morgan’s Fight Appeal Facebook said: “We thank you all for your on going support and kind words. Please respect the families’ need to grieve together during this very difficult time. Details of the funeral will be shared in due course.”
Morgan, who had won the hearts of the local community, suffered from a rare aggressive cancer called neuroblastoma. An appeal was set-up during the year to help fund lifesaving treatment in America and money flooded in. In October, we reported £53,000 had been raised.
Morgan and his family travelled to New York in December for treatment, but sadly received the devastating news that his disease had progressed too far and the treatment could not go ahead. His family made the decision to return home and undergo chemo and radiotherapy in the UK.
However, a post on the appeal page on January 1 said: “Morgan’s condition deteriorated fast over the last two weeks. During his dose of radiotherapy he had a seizure and the pressure in his brain became unbearable. We have managed his pain as well as possible, but the pain you can never remove fully.”
As a result, Morgan was transferred to Ty Hafan in Barry where he passed away this morning.
