The poor weather conditions did not dampen the Pembrokeshire spirit at the recently staged Proms in The Castle, in association with South Hook LNG, at Pembroke Castle.

Over £9,600 was raised for local charitable causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Pembrokeshire Cancer Support. The Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra performed classical favourites from Offenbach, Tchaikovsky with a theme of Around the World in 80 Tunes and closed with Pomp & Circumstance March No.1 and the 1812 Overture along with a spectacular firework display.

The Neyland Ladies Choir and Tempus supported the concert with a varied and very entertaining programme enjoyed by the 900-plus audience.

Event organiser and chairman of Pembrokeshire Macmillan Cancer Support, Phil Thompson said: "Raising over £9,600 for charity was only made possible by the very generous support we received from South Hook LNG and we thank them very, very much. I would also like to thank the 'set-up crew' for achieving such high standards in atrocious weather conditions and also praise the audience for supporting the event in such wet weather."

Concertgoers were able to enter the castle from 2 pm and enjoy an afternoon exploring the castle and listen to the rehearsal before the main evening entertainment at 7 pm.

Sue Reece, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "I would like to thank South Hook LNG for their tremendous financial support and Jon Williams and all his staff at the castle for all their help and assistance. I would also like to thank Macmillan Pembrokeshire Committee members for all their hard work on the night and Phil Thompson, county chair, who masterminded the entire event. A fantastic amount of money has been raised and every penny will go towards helping people affected by cancer in the local community. Thank you.
