The South Wale Male Choir - Côr Meibion De Cymru are due to return to Pembrokeshire next month when the ever popular and big choir stages their 'Sounds of Wales' concert, sponsored by Texaco, at Folly Farm, Begelly, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. No strangers to West Wales, the 140-strong choir regularly performs at least twice a year in Pembrokeshire on each side of the Haven, thanks to the support of their core sponsor Chevron Texaco - at St. David's Cathedral in the summer, preceded by the Follies Theatre in the spring. Charities that benefit from the south of the Haven event in the past have included the Lady Taverners, Cystic Fibrosis and Tenby Lifeboat, to name but a few. However, this year, the sterling work undertaken by the Pembroke and District Committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief is recognised and the proceeds of the Folly Farm concert on Saturday, May 21, will be donated to assist the work of the Macmillan Nurses in the area. Joining the South Wales Male Choir on stage will be a finalist from the 2005 Texaco Young Musician of Wales competition which reaches a climax on April 23 in Cardiff, when five brilliant youngsters compete for the coveted title (and generous prize money!). Both joint organisers, Texaco and Côr Meibion De Cymru, anticipate even higher standards of performance than those witnessed over the 17 years that the competition has run - and Pembrokeshire will get to hear one of the finalists first! Other soloists at the Follies Theatre will include the choir's own tenor soloist, Peter Totterdale, and the pianoforte of accompanist, Siân Gwawr, plus another vocalist soon to be announced. Tickets are available from the Folly Farm Box Office on (01834) 812731, or by calling in at the Folly Farm Shop, Wellington House, High Street, Tenby, or Forget Me Not Florist, Main Street, Pembroke.
