Sir,

A unique event is to be held protesting against the decision to axe funding of peripatetic music lessons and drama at Tenby's Greenhill School.

An idea came to me when I was thinking of all things I would never have done and all the people I would never have met had I not had the opportunity to pursue music in Greenhill. It amounts to hundreds, maybe thousands.

"I wondered what would happen if all of those people were to get together and do something. That was perhaps too much to hope for. But what about just one of them? And if every person who has ever been involved with music and/or drama in Greenhill brought just one of their friends too? It would be incredible.

It would need to be musical, and so singing struck me as the obvious thing to do - it is easy, portable, and doesn't require instruments or setting up.

So this is the event. Nothing complicated. I want to gather people from Greenhill's musical and dramatic past, present, and future, along with their friends and supporters to sing. Not in concert, but in protest.

What will it achieve? Well, it will be a spectacle. If every one of us begs a television presenter, a newspaper reporter, a radio presenter, a musician, an actor, a playwright, anyone, to come, there is a chance that it will grab some headlines and airtime. It will help to show how many people this will affect and how unhappy they are about it. It will demonstrate that this will not be given up lightly.

It doesn't matter how old you and the people you bring are. It doesn't matter if you can't sing. It doesn't matter if you don't want to sing. You can make tea, make calls, nag people to come, send out information to people, raise awareness or simply help giving out music.

What does matter is that you are joining in, because the more massive this event is, the more successful it will be.

So come! Saturday, April 25, 1 - 5 pm, St. Mary's Church, Tenby. It's soon, and it's going to be challenging. There will be one advance 'rehearsal' on Tuesday, April 21, from 7 - 9 pm in St. Mary's.
