A dedicated foster parent, who has cared for over 30 children in her seven years of fostering, has won Pembrokeshire's Champion of Foster Care Award.

Mel Mogford was singled out by her fellow foster carers, looked-after children and social care professionals in recognition of her outstanding contribution to fostering.

Since starting foster parenting in 2001, the mother-of-three has looked after over 30 children of all ages on emergency, respite, short term and long term arrangements.

She was presented with her trophy by Phil Thompson, of Chevron - the event's sponsors - at a special celebration evening for foster carers held at the Beggar's Reach Hotel in Burton last week.

Almost 60 carers attended the evening, which was aimed at recognising the work they do on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council.

As well as the champion award, others were presented with awards for lifetime achievement, kinship caring, as well as honours for carers who have been fostering for over five, 10 and 15 years.

Prizes included vouchers donated by Wilkinsons, Vincent Davies, Folly Farm and the Wolfscastle Country Hotel.
