Narberth romped home in style last Friday in their pen-ultimate game of the season to give them an outside chance of clinching that much sought after seventh spot next Saturday.

With a number of changes to the team, the game started slowly, with neither side scoring until the 22nd minute when one of Narberth's stand-out men of the season, Simon Daniel, kicked his first penalty of the day from inside the 22, to give the Otters the lead.

This was cancelled out 19 minutes later when Beddau centre Scott Perry kicked, what turned out to be their only points of the day, with a penalty to level things at the half-hour mark.

Things were starting to gel in the Narberth team and after 32 minutes prop Andrew Howell barged his way over after good work from backs and forwards alike, to give Narberth the lead.

The conversion was slotted over by Daniel, who added another penalty before the break to give the Otters a 10-point cushion going into the second half.

Immediately from the restart, fullback Nick Jones crossed near the posts to increase the lead after a wonderful break by outside-half Simon Daniel, who added the extras from the conversion.

Provider then turned try scorer minutes later as the Beddau defence disintegrated. Daniel broke once again and crossed the line with three defenders trying in vain to halt his forward charge. The conversion was again successfully hit by the try scorer to boost Narberth and dishearten Beddau.

Two minutes later, hooker Craig Hawkins showed off his speed down the right flank after he latched on to a ball from Andrew Howell and thrust himself into the right corner, with Daniel converting once again from the touchline to increase the score further.

Elgan Vittle was brought on for Nick Jones, and was in support for one of Andrew Howells' barn-storming runs to cross from close range to score another try, but this time it was unconverted.

Daniel touched down himself minutes later, but unfortunately dragged the conversion.

But the man showed his grit and completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards with yet another Narberth try, and this time he made no mistake with the conversion.

All these tries and not one for in-form winger Daniel Gravell, that was until the dying minutes when he received the ball and crossed from short distance to score Narberth's eighth try of the day and confirm their eighth successive win.

Simon Daniel added the extras to complete the rout and give him a personal tally of 33 points for the game.

This dazzling display showed that if any of the other contenders for seventh place should slip up, then Narberth are going to reap the rewards.

The Otters travel to Carmarthen Quins next Saturday for the last game of the season and all they can do is win and hope for other results to go their way, but the start and finish to this season have been very strong, and all at the club can take solace in that when reflecting back.
