Sir,
I felt that I had to respond to the content of your reader's comments re: 'How many signs does a business need' in your issue dated Friday, May 24.
In answer to this question, businesses need as many signs as are needed in these very difficult economic times.
What would he/she prefer? Signs or empty shops? I entirely agree that there is need to ensure that all signage is done in an orderly and professional manner.
Signs are a very important part of a traders tools. They are as important as his shop window displaying his items for sale.
The sooner the better that Pembrokeshire County Council gives us small traders some help in fighting back against the large multiple stores situated on out of town shopping centres.
My wife and myself are trading in St. Govan's Centre, in Pembroke Dock, and are experiencing the reluctance of the county council to give permission for suitable professional signs to be erected directing shoppers to our shopping centre.
Action is required in Pembrokeshire by those in a position to help before it is too late to save all the businesses struggling to survive.
In a nutshell, businesses do require signs. Maybe not 20 or 25, as your writer claims to have counted (only wish I had the time to waste).
Please will you county councillors and planners give us your much needed help while you still have the smaller businesses still trading in this wonderful county of Pembrokeshire.
