Once again it's that time of year to 'Sign Up' to learning. People all over the country will be contemplating returning to the classroom, either, to improve their qualifications; to learn a new skill; get fit or make new friends.
Learning Pembrokeshire provides a wide range of learning opportunities at venues throughout the county and at different times to cater for as many people as possible.
The open evenings provide an opportunity to meet with tutor to discuss the course, whilst the taster sessions will provide a little more in depth information and will help students determine if the course is what they are looking for.
Learning Pembrokeshire is grateful to NIACE for funding these courses and attendees will also have the chance to win £200.
Living as we do in a technological age, nobody can afford to be without computing skills. Learning Pembrokeshire offers a range of courses that cater for the timid; the more elderly; students returning to the workforce; those who want to gain qualifications; students wishing to pursue a hobby such as digital photography, tracing your family tree or how to use e-mail to keep in touch with family and friends across the world.
For the creative in the community there is an opportunity to learn to paint in one of the many media; try their hand at cake decorating, dressmaking, embroidery, floral art, floristry, knitting, pottery, silk painting, traditional stained glass, or willow basket making.
Existing students will be demonstrating the skills they have learnt by displaying their artistic works at Tenby Community Learning Centre from Monday to Friday, September 12 to 16. Not to be outdone, their tutors, who are all practising artists, will be displaying their work at the Colby Gallery, Colby Woodland Gardens, near Amroth, daily 10 am - 5 pm until Sunday, September 18.
Workshops are always popular, especially the life drawing and Graham Hadlow day courses, which need to be booked early to ensure a place.
New this term, are the Recycled Denim, Art in Textiles and Combined Techniques-Collage Weave and Stitch day courses. The tutor has worked with some of the big names in fashion, so come and learn how to make something that would cost a fortune if it was off the catwalk. Her portfolio of work is fascinating in its own right.
Terry John's period cookery classes are well worth joining as you get to eat the fruits of your labour - not recommended for those on a diet!
If when you look through the programme there is nothing of interest to you, let us know by ringing one of the centres with your suggestions for new courses. That is exactly what one student did and as a result there will a brand new Tai Chi class starting on September 26 at Tenby Community Learning Centre. Other leisure classes include bridge, garden design, gentle exercise, golf, coastal navigation and returning to the Tenby centre after an absence of some years is yoga.
The choice is amazing so don't delay make sure you get your enrolment in as soon as possible. You won't regret it and a whole new world could be opened up as a result of 'Signing Up'.
