An appeal against Pembrokeshire County Council's refusal to grant planning permission for an illuminated advertisement sign in Pembroke has been dismissed by a Welsh Assembly Government inspector.
Planning inspector Gareth Rennie said the sign at Robinsons Store, 3 East End Square, was out of keeping with the appearance of its immediate area and the Conservation Area.
Pembrokeshire County Council originally refused planning permission for the illuminated sign last November and Robinsons Retail Ltd., appealed.
In a decision announced earlier this month, the planning inspector concluded that the combination of the bright, coloured fascia board dominated the property and its adjacent area and detracted from the more understated colour schemes of the majority of the buildings and commercial units in the street - and the conservation area as a whole.
He said the combination of the size of the advertisement sign across the whole of the shop front - together with the effect of its colour scheme - resulted in an incongruous feature that was out of keeping with the appearance of the immediate area and Conservation Area.
He added that he considered the illumination at night to result in an incongruous and unnecessary visual intrusion.
