SI Tenby and District held their 54th annual general meeting at Heywood Mount Hotel.
Welcoming the members, president Dilys Jenkinson said that she could not believe a year could have passed so quickly. A year that, for her had been a happy one, with a lot of hard-work, but a lot of fun and laughter as well.
Thanks to the support and the loyalty of all the members, the fund-raising events had been very successful, enabling a generous amount of money to be given to the chosen recipients.
The one sad note during the year had been the death of founder member Dr. Olga Ryland who had been much loved and would be missed by everyone.
Giving her report, club secretary Sonia Evans said that indeed it had been a very successful year and many Soroptimist projects and local organisations had benefited from the money that had been raised.
Two new members had been welcomed into club, Elanor Sanderson, who had transferred from SI Bath, and Sam Turner, a new Soroptimist.
Referring to Dr. Olga, she was delighted to report that a seat in her memory was to put on the harbour in Saundersfoot. She congratulated president Dilys on an excellent year.
Club treasurer Rosemary Proctor distributed the audited accounts and reported that the finances were very healthy. The sum of £3,320 had been given to the recipients chosen, and in all, 20 had benefited.
The Immediate past president/programme action officer reported that the competition for schools on the subject of 'Slavery' was progressing well. Everything was in place for the submission of the work, the judging, the exhibition at Tenby Museum, and the publication of a booklet of winning entries. This had been made possible by the generous sponsorship of local businesses.
The letter regarding 'Pension Poverty' that had gone to MPs and AMs had received an excellent response, and the work on the FGM (Female Circumcision) Awareness Campaign co-ordinated by Wendy Bell and Karen Powell was still expanding.
The reports from the social and link club secretaries, Eiona Aston and Margaret James, stated that for them also it had been a good year. The social events had all gone very well, and the contact with the link clubs was as strong as ever.
With the reports completed, immediate past president Ann, on behalf of the members, thanked and congratulated president Dilys on a happy, successful and productive year. She knew she spoke for everyone, saying 'well done' president Dilys.
