On Friday, August 31, the national news headlines reminded us that 2012 was the wettest summer for 100 years. Anxious Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot stood in their gardens looking at the sky for signs of the predicted rain.

Fortunately, the forecast was wrong again, and they were able to proceed with the pig roast at Cresswell Quay. They say that pigs can't fly, but the roast pig flew into pork rolls in record time, thanks to the expert carving of Gareth (from Andrew Rees, butcher) and the speedy serving of president Jean Watson and Rotarian Jon Everett.

As well as the pig roast, there were two cake stalls (one from Inner Wheel), a duck race, Spin the Wheel and 'Name the Dog' competitions. Spin the Wheel was operated by past president Ian Nicholls, who stood out from the crowd in his large Texan hat (some thought the cast of Dallas were visiting the Quay).

In addition to the stalls, several boats came to the Quay on the rising tide, which added to the interest of everyone.

Once the tide turned, past presidents Lionel Allen, Peter Williams and Brian Waters launched the ducks to applause from the crowd and Rotarians Jim Ball and Charles Hopkinson patrolled the winning line, in their canoes, waiting for the fastest duck. The lucky winner was Mrs. Reynolds. In addition, Tara won 'Name the Dog'.

The members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot would like to express their thanks to Maurice and Janet Cole for giving permission to hold the Pig Roast at Cresswell Quay and the public for their generosity on the night. The money raised will be used primarily to support worthy causes in the community and responding to international disasters.

The photographs show the crowds on the Quay awaiting the launch of the ducks and president Jean Watson presenting the prize to Tara, winner of 'Name the Dog'.
