Sir,
My personal perception of Tenby Town Council is that it has become a poorly attended talking shop with no real power. There is no evidence that its suggestions to the County Council and PCNPA carry any more weight than those of individuals and, with the hand-over of the De Valence, it is left with a say only in how the gardens might be planted out.
For this, a Band D resident pays a yearly £50 precept as part of the Council Tax. Few people, I am sure, would be able to name more than half-a-dozen of the present council.
Let the Town Council prove me wrong by publishing a convincing mission statement to the electorate, and make the first issue in the forthcoming elections whether we want a council at all, or whether the concensus is that it should be disbanded. That might just possibly cure the apathy with regard to polling which has been complained about in the past. Once people had voted on this question, they could proceed to which councillors they would choose should the council be retained.
A resounding vote in favour of the council would silence critics such as myself, whilst one the other way would save us all some money and streamline communication on matters of public concern.
Trisha Putwain,
Wheelhouse,
Bridge Street,
Tenby.
