Sir, May I please, through your letters page, express my dismay at the shallowness, short-sightedness and pointlessness of local resident Mr. Brian Kemp’s complaint about the fabulous Welsh National Scooter Rally in Tenby during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

The content of his letter of complaint to Tenby Town Council aims to make a proverbial mountain of issues out of a molehill of minor irritations to him and, virtually, him alone, with scant regard for the all too numerous to mention benefits to this wonderful town we call home.

His complaint too is unfounded, as the only significant concentration of noise and scooter exhaust fumes would have been during the start of the Official Rally Ride out when Tenby townsfolk and visitors alike enjoyed the spectacular sight of hundreds of loved and cared for scooters gleaming in the beautiful early Spring sunshine as they went down the High Street, round St. George’s Street and up Upper Frog Street, before departing for Cresswell Quay, where every single scooter and their riders were welcomed with open, complaint-free, arms.

The complainant’s letter also includes inaccuracies because the impunity to park on wide pavements was subject only to ensuring, at all times, that prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs could still pass and our local traffic control officers all managed this process empathetically and professionally.

The national scooter community comprises of friendly like-minded folk, from all over the UK, who live life to the full and both enjoy and embrace the towns and the communities that figure on the National Scooter Rally calendar ,as Tenby does bi-annually, and I know, from talking to several local business owners and staff, that the weekend was a bumper weekend. As I walked and rode around town throughout the weekend every pub, restaurant, café, hotel and shop seemed to be pleasingly busy as the ‘vibe’ of the weekend set the tone, a tone that resonated long after our scooter guests had returned to their homes.

I would like to place on record my thanks to Clrs. Christine Brown and Laurence Blackhall for their justifiably dismissive response to Mr. Kemp’s petty complaint that one hopes will now be consigned to the file marked ‘Oh Dear, How Sad, Never Mind, Move On’.

Finally Mr. Kemp, if you would like a ride on the back of my scooter, you are more than welcome anytime!

Nicky Lloyd,

Tenby
