Shoppers in Pembrokeshire have been warned not to buy tubs of Lebanese Tahini which may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds originating in the Middle East, often used as an ingredient in houmous and other dips

The implicated brand, manufactured by SH Alyaman and Sons in Lebanon, is available in 454g and 907g plastic tubs and the best before dates are from January 2005 and up to and including July 2005.

The tubs are beige coloured with green lettering and a green screw-top lid.

The warning follows an alert a few days earlier relating to 16kg catering tins of Tahini, manufactured in the Lebanon by SH Yaman and Sons, a sample of which tested positive for Salmonella.

The importer is undertaking a trade withdrawal of the product, however there is a strong possibility that it still remains on sale.

An investigation by Pembrokeshire County Council's food safety and standards team has identified some of the affected product on sale at a shop in the Narberth area.

While the remaining stock has been withdrawn, some of the affected batch may well have been sold.

If householders have bought any of the named products, they should return them to the shop from where it was purchased.
