A fully qualified plumber and gas engineer from the area has officially been selected to represent Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for air pistol and 25m.22 pistol events. Shawnee Leigh Bourner, a former pupil of Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, started shooting at the age of 11 whilst competing in tetrathlon events for The Pony Club. She enjoyed the shooting aspect and soon became a member of the Three Counties Air Target Club Carmarthen and began represnting Wales at junior international level. Now a senior competitor, Shawnee has travelled extensively representing her country nationally and internationally. On a personal note, Shawnee would like to thank her coach, John Kelman, for all his hard work, time, travelling and effort in helping her achieve this amazing opportunity. Also she would like to thank her boss David Bolton for his support, allowing her to have time off work to train and compete. Finally, none of this would be possible if it wasn't for the support of her parents Chris and Caroline Bourner, along with her partner Andrew Clewett and his family, who have all stood by her in her progression to selection. Shawnee is heading to Luxembourg at the end of June to compete in the Four Nations match, before she goes to Glasgow in July.
