Three fishermen had something of a scary moment whilst fishing off Lydstep, when they came face to face with a shark!

The trio witnessed a large porbeagle shark attack the mackerel they had caught on their feathers while fishing on Sunday.

“It came alongside our boat which was very scary,” said one of the three, Russell Bratcher.

“The whole incident only lasted about 10 seconds,” he continued. “We are very experienced anglers and to see the shark was a total shock to us. We go out fishing every weekend and have never seen anything like this.

“We were only in about 10-foot of water. We brought the mackerel feathers to the end of the boat and could hear some splashing around which was the shark attacking the mackerel.

“There was no mistake in what it was, it was definitely a porbeagle shark.

“From what we saw, we would say its approximate weight was 250 lbs.”

Russell, who lives in Porth in the Rhondda, but has a caravan locally, was with friends Andre Sallam and Richy Green.

“The sighting will not stop us fishing, but we will definitely not be going swimming off our boat which we do occasionally,” added Russell.
