A private shark fishing trip caused great excitement when they landed their catch on Saundersfoot harbour on Sunday

Amongst the haul was a 170lb Porbeagle, believed to the biggest ever fish landed in the village.

The fishing trip was organised by Graham Thomas using the Sea Leopard, owned by Willy Thomas.

"I used to run the occasional shark fishing trip years ago, and I was asked if I'd organise another one," Mr. Graham Thomas told the Observer.

Fishing some 25 miles away, all six members of the party either caught sharks or 'had runs', with Norman Llewellyn bagging the 170lb monster.

Boat owner Willy Thomas himself landed a 110 lb Porbeagle, while Mr. Thomas landed a couple of smaller ones.

All sharks below 100lb in weight were returned to the sea alive.

As food fish, the Porbeagles caught were passed on to local restaurants in the Tenby area to appear on their menus.
