OK, so the photograph is not of a real shark, but this awe-inspiring creation is enough to make you think otherwise (writes Rosella Pollard). Sculpted from steel by artist Nick Rasmussen, the shark is one of four of his pieces displayed at Tenby's Art Matters. The first is a Blue Marlin which can be seen on the wall in the entrance, while a Pike with Minnows, a Thornback Ray and the shark make up the other three masterpieces. The deep sea creature is nine-foot long and was made four years ago. Nick welded the steel-bent shape after several years of sculpting steel cars. A move by the sea encouraged his interest in fish. When asked if he thought of himself as a sculptor or an artist, he said it was a "bit of both really." Nick follows in the footsteps of his father and proudly admits to "liking to work to a challenge." The shark, plus numerous other sculptures, paintings etc., helps make up the fine array of talent which can be seen at Art Matters in South Parade. The gallery is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
