Next Tuesday, November 25, there will be a rare opportunity for those with old or interesting photographs of Tenby to share them with others and to contribute to Pembrokeshire's Virtual Museum. Representatives of the County Museum Service will be present at the meeting of Tenby Historical Society with equipment to scan the pictures into a database which is being made widely available through the internet.

Earlier this year, Mark Thomas from Scolton Manor Museum showed members of the society some of the material which had already been collected to create a remarkable archive of local photographs. He discussed the background to those photographs and sought further information on many of them.

The great advantage of the Virtual Museum is that it can show images of old photographs and artefacts, while leaving the originals in the hands of the owners.

Although Tenby must be one of the most photographed places on the planet, each picture tells a unique story of the time and circumstances under which it has been taken. It is with this intention of capturing the stories behind the pictures as well as the images themselves that the Virtual Museum staff are inviting people to come forward with their personal collections.

The meeting will take place at Tenby Bowling Club in Sutton Street, at 7.30 on Tuesday, November 25. There is a contribution to costs of £2 and non-members of the Tenby Historical Society are most welcome, especially if they have interesting photograph albums.
