Sir,

Visiting Manorbier from Warwickshire during the recent half-term holiday, I was walking on Manorbier Beach when we came across a very strong and unpleasant smell of sewage. It was low tide.

The following day, with the tide halfway up, the smell was still there.

As a regular visitor, I have never experienced that before. Seeing there is a pipe from the dunes into the sea, I made enquiries asking if this was a sewerage pipe.

I was told a sewerage plant at Tenby dealt with Tenby sewage and that rain-water only was promised for the Manorbier Beach outlet.

From the evidence of my own nose, this is clearly not true.

My daughter swims there during the summer months and I am very concerned to know what is the truth behind these smells, and if this situation will change before the summer holidays.
