A service of infant dedication was conducted in Penuel Baptist Church on Sunday morning.

The two-week-old baby boy was the son of Stephen and Penny Lewis, of Kenya, Africa, and the grandson of James and Rosemary Lewis, of Elm House, Jameston.

The service was conducted by Rev. David Cardwell and the baby was named Solomon James. Solomon from the hebrew word 'shalom' (peace) and James, from the Hebrew name, Jacob.

Mr. Cardwell explained that this was not a christening service, nor a service of infant baptism, but following biblical precedent, it was a service of blessing, but also one of dedicating the child to the Lord.

The scriptures were read by Mr. Jason Thomas. The first from Samuel 1, Chapter 1 was an account of Hannah's act of dedication, when she took her son Samuel to the house of the Lord at Shiloh and said to Eli the priest, "As long as he lives he shall be lent to the Lord."

The second reading was from Mark's gospel, chapter 10, which included the words of Jesus: "Suffer the little children to come into me, and forbid them not for of such is the Kingdom of God". Mark tells us that Jesus took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

A good number of members and friends attended the service which was a great celebration of thanksgiving and joy.

The organist was grand-mamma Lewis, and Miss Gloria Lewis and Mr. Cardwell sang several children's hymns to guitar accompaniment, 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam' and in view of Solomon's future life in Kenya, 'Red and yellow, black and white, all are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the World.'

The duetists were joined by the congregation in singing, 'He's got Steve and Penny's baby in His hand, He's got the whole World in his hands.'

Prayers were said for the other grandparents, Jerry and Mary Cowley, who live in New Zealand.
