Sir,

I was most interested to read the article 'Let the Train take the Strain' in your September 17 edition, in which Mike Bagshaw, of Arriva Trains Wales, is encouraging people to leave their cars at home and use the train instead. In the article we are told that, 'For some business people, it can allow them to start the working day earlier, making work/life balance a bit less of a struggle'.

On September 17, I waited in vain for the 7.40am train to take me to work in Pembroke. It failed to arrive. I then made my way to the bus stop and caught the bus. I finally got to work at 8.50 am, 20 minutes late, cross and frazzled.

This is the second time that this has happened in the six weeks I have been using this service. No explanation, no apology, just let down.

I am not alone. There are several regular passengers from Kilgetty, Tenby, Penally and Manobier who would have been in the same situation.

We are constantly being encouraged to use public transport, but the service must improve.
