Sir,

As a resident of Lady Park, I would support County Councillor Michael Williams in his request to improve the safety at the Bells Corner. The original committee of the North Tenby Residents Association campaigned in 1991 for the improvement of the Lady Park road junction and also the extension of the 30 mph speed limit beyond the Bells Corner. These improvements were agreed in some measure by the county council and the two Tenby county councillors at that time. The only improvement that materialised was street lighting at the Lady Park junction so that residents could see, during the hours of darkness, where to turn into Lady Park. It was suggested that a pedestrian refuge be placed on the Narberth Road near Lady Park entrance for the safety of residents having to cross over to a pavement. This would also have had the effect of slowing traffic down, which now is desperately needed. Over the last 15 years the traffic has increased tenfold, with the majority of vehicles exceeding the speed limit, with the result that exiting from Lady Park has become hazardous. It is, in my opinion, just a matter of time before a serious accident will occur. Perhaps then the county council will act. Exceeding the speed limit today seems to be the custom and until the penalty is a three months ban and not just penalty points and a few pounds, it will continue.

Mr. D. E. White
