The strength of the senior membership at Tenby Golf Club is evident from the turnout on a Tuesday when they all meet at 9.30 am to challenge the course - and each other.

Consistently over the last four weeks the turnout has reached 40 and this week was no exception. The weekly eclectic competition had been shelved for a Chapman Foursomes event and everyone was delighted to see the early morning sunshine. While some clouds scudded across during the day and the wind seemed to increase its strength around the eighth and ninth holes, it was not enough to dampen the spirits of this jocular band.

Mike Fox could be heard regaling everyone with his stories - the ones he had heard from Sonny in the locker room - while a few conscientious souls actually indulged in some practice.

With everyone in, Jim Taylor and David Miller proved to be the strong arms, holding everyone up with their magnificent 24. Out in front were a couple of names that crop up quite regularly. To complete a full house, Paul Nixon (he has already had a first and second), came in third with a 36. He was aided and abetted by new member, John Beechey.

Just ahead of them was the golden pair of Richard Davies and John Cook, scoring 37. When asked how the golden pair had fared, Richard explained that their performance was just a tad tarnished. He had left a few putts out on the course which, if they had dropped, would have given them pole position. We can all say that!

Outright winners were Meurig Jones and, guess who? Bob Howse, with an excellent 39.

Richard Davies and John Cook picked up two 2s in their round, while Brian Morgan and, new member, Ray Ford, picked up one to join them.

Ken Gouldsbrough was out with the boys, but was rather superfluous to the event. His partner had not turned up, so he went round with David Llewellyn and John Hayhoe in order to mark their card.

Brian Morgan was there to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket and this week's winners were: Peter Williams, Colin Griffith, Gary and Derek Bath. All proceeds will be donated to charity.

Next week sees a return to the Eclectic competition, with the first tee-off at 9.30.
