Thursday, December 15, saw a large gathering of Senior members and their wives enjoy a Christmas meal at the Golf Club. Steve and Hilary had been busy preparing the choices of turkey, lamb and salmon and were ready for the onslaught. Their neatly laid out tables, with each table enhanced with a festive candle display, prepared by Veronica Martin.

The seniors were arriving wondering if this year they would be able to complete the evening. The words gales, rain and snow were mentioned in the forecast and those attending recalled last year's dinner when heavy snowfall brought an abrupt ending to what promised to be a great evening.

They need not have been concerned. The forecast was not as dire as predicted and they were able to enjoy the food and each other's company in a well structured evening. The tables were prepared, the wine bottles uncorked and the evening kicked off with a mind stretching quiz expertly prepared by Gillian Morgan. The levels of conversation rose as each team debated the answers to be given.

MC for the evening, Jeff Banfield, welcomed everyone, grace was said and a sumptuous meal enjoyed. Following the meal, the seniors were treated to an entertaining hour by Laurie and Pauline, who regaled everyone with amusing stories and ditties, along with well-known songs from the musicals.

To round off the evening, Russell Clark was persuaded to tinkle the ivories and lead the throng in some carol singing. Newman Vincent normally keeps everyone on their toes and in his absence the singing was just a little disjointed - until, that is, our honourable captain, Jim Martin, stepped in to restore some order. He has since admitted how difficult it is to keep order amongst the seniors! It was immaterial, since everyone enjoyed and appreciated the evening as a whole. Roll on next year.
