Forty-five senior citizens gathered at Lawrenny last Sunday to enjoy a scrumptious Christmas lunch organised by the Community Association of Landshipping, Lawrenny, Martletwy and Minwear (CALLMM) when about 15 volunteers from the local community cooked and served the meal to a very appreciative gathering at Lawrenny Cricket Club.

After lunch, Father Christmas and Mother Christmas presented everyone with a Christmas gift from the raffle and the lucky winner of the Christmas cake was 94-year-old Mrs. J. Richards, of Newton Green.

The afternoon closed with Patrick Jones relating a number of amusing stories to the audience with the aid of a colourful collection of hats from around the world.

CALLMM was set up about five years ago with the aim of helping various groups in the community.

"Since its formation," said outgoing chairperson Sue Wood, "the committee, with the help of its invaluable volunteers, has been able to provide Christmas lunch to our senior citizens each year as well as helping several children's groups. We are very fortunate that the community spirit is very much still alive and everyone works together to make it so worthwhile and enjoyable."

Mrs. Wood, who has been chairperson since its inception, was presented with a bouquet on behalf of CALLMM, before handing over to Elaine Lewis, the incoming chairperson.

CALLMM would like to thank all those who helped to make the occasion so enjoyable and especially Hugh and Caroline Richards, of Lawrenny Cricket Club, for their help and hospitality.
