Hijinx Theatre presents 'Seize The Day', a new play by Glenys Evans, at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, on Thursday, June 15.
Set in the 1930s, 'Seize The Day' features talented Down's syndrome actress Sarah Gordy as Mary, the new maid downstairs in the house of Lord and Lady Webb. Struggling to learn the ropes, and stripped of her freedom and her name, Mary is drawn into the world of 'upstairs' by the daughter of the house. When Mary's love for Lord Webb's groom, Harry, blossoms, the danger of losing her job as well as her heart grows.
"Seize The Day is a play about challenging perceptions, overcoming obstacles and making others re-evaluate their prejudices," said Hijinx artistic director, Gaynor Lougher. "I am very excited to be directing this piece that features Sarah in our 25th birthday year."
As a company, Hijinx Theatre have long been committed to breaking down barriers and challenging perceptions wherever possible. Through 'Seize The Day', the mixed ability professional cast will present a positive image of disability as well as telling a spellbinding story. Audiences, particularly learning disabled audiences, will hopefully be inspired and entertained by this new and original play.
There will be two performances, one at 3 pm and the other at 7.30 pm. Tickets are £7/£6 (free entry for support assistants) and are available from Span Arts on (01834) 869323.
