Funds from the introduction of a premium tax on second home owners across Pembrokeshire could be used to enhance play park provision, councillors in Tenby have proposed.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that after her colleague Clr. Mike Evans had mentioned at the previous meeting that provision could be used for special projects in the town, she fully backed an idea to use the funds to improve play parks in Tenby.

“We’ve got four play parks across the town, so I agree that these funds could be used to enhance them with new equipment, and maybe match-funding can be sought too,” said Clr. Mrs. Brown, asking for the matter to be put on the agenda.

The town clerk, Andrew Davies, said that he had spoken to Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of environment and civil contingencies, Richard Brown, who is the authority’s liaison link officer for Tenby, who had said that he was happy for the town council to purchase new play equipment, which PCC would maintain in turn.

Clr. Evans said that he would fully support the move and would look forward to every play park in Tenby being slowly upgraded, and work with the town clerk to secure any outside funding available for health, fitness and play provision.
