Pupils from Tavernspite School are making this Christmas a special one for children in Africa. They are donating the money they would normally spend on sending Christmas cards to each other to FARM-Africa's Buy a Goat project. As well as raising money for a good cause, the project helps to cut down on waste, in keeping with the school's eco- friendly status. The school has already raised enough money this term through raffles, donations and a Goat Factor talent show to pay for 20 goats. The infant school teachers have also asked for goat donations rather than the traditional end of term presents such as chocolates and soap. "Our appeal is going very well and the children have really got behind the idea," said headteacher Brian Jones. "It would be wonderful if we could send a whole herd of goats to families in Africa who really need them."
