What a difference a week makes! The sunny smiles on Tenby United's faces after the previous week's successful centenary season league opener against Ystradgynlais were quickly wiped off by Carmarthen Athletic last Saturday.
The newcomers to division two of the National League confirmed their position as one of the promotion favourites with a formidable display which left the shellshocked Seasiders chasing shadows.
And, ironically, two men very much at the hub of the Athletic's impressive display were two former Tenby players, scrum-half Craig Thomas and fly-half Neil Powling.
The pair combined superbly to keep the United on the backfoot and in the process bagged 30 of their side's 50 points.
Star of the show was the lively Thomas, who showed no mercy to his former team-mates, snapping up a hat-trick of tries as he capitalised on some sterling work by his pack.
Indeed the Athletic forwards were just that - athletic. They seemed to cover every blade of grass on the Heywood Lane pitch as they continually made deep inroads into the United's overworked defence.
Their back row trio was particularly dominant, continually being first to the breakdown and wrestling the ball free to set the Athletic off on another charge down field.
To be fair, the United seemed to have the pace out wide to stretch the visitors, but all too often they were starved of possession as the Athletic were content to play to their strengths and keep things tight.
It was the Seasiders who took the lead, however, when former skipper and fly-half Gavin Scotcher landed a penalty.
Indeed, at that stage, there was no indication of the onslaught that was to follow.
But follow it did as the ambitious Athletic surged into a 26-point lead by the interval.
Flanker Evans set the ball rolling with the first try of the afternoon, which was converted by Powling, who then added a drop goal for good measure.
Craig Thomas then grabbed his first touchdown, followed by two more tries by hooker Jason Evans and winger Wayne Jones, two of which were converted by Powling to make the interval score 29-3.
Fortunes did not change for the United after the turnaround. In fact, the second half was not very old when Thomas crossed for his second try, again converted by Powling.
The United were obviously dejected, but they did not let their heads drop and gave the home supporters something to shout about when hooker Richard Rossiter charged over for an unconverted try.
But it made little difference to the outcome. Normal service was resumed for the Athletic, who completed the rout with a third try from scrum-half Thomas and another from centre Richard Davies.
Powling converted both to round off a successful day for the visitors.
Tenby fielded: Dean Bowen, Sion Brace, Neil Truman, Carl Brodders, Gavin Jones, Gavin Scotcher, Oliver Brace, Arthur Day, Richard Rossiter, Richard James, Pat Nolan, Conrad Rees, Nicky Allen, Stuart Tyrie, Justin Jones. Replacement - Paul Luger.
