On paper, given current form and position in National League division four (west) Tenby United would have been expected to 'do the double' over old rivals Haverfordwest when they travelled to Merlins Bridge on Saturday.
However, they came up against a formidable Blues pack who took control in the third quarter to steer Harfat to a 17-8 victory and wash away memories of their 17-9 defeat at the hands of the United at Heywood Lane earlier in the season.
In typical local derby fashion, both teams tested each other in the opening stages and it was Tenby who got of to the brighter start with a penalty from outside half Bleddyn Evans giving them the lead after three minutes.
Haverfordwest edged in front tanks to two Steve Williams penalties, although Evans did have a change to put the United back on terms but missed with three pointer from 40 metres.
An unconverted opportunist try from grafting skipper Richard Rossiter put the visitors 8-6 ahead at the break but after the oranges it seemed to be all Blues traffic as their hard working pack denied the Seasiders any workable possession despite the industry of Anthony Griffiths, Justin Richards and Nicky Allen in the back row.
Williams snatched back the lead for the Blues with another penalty as they camped in Tenby territory after the change around and then extended the advantage with another three pointer.
Seeing the game slipping away from them, Tenby defended resolutely, halting two Lewis Wood charges from scrum fives, but the Blues' were not to be denied with Graham Badham, Andrew Harries and Jamie Dalton combining well to split the United defence and send wing Mark Jones over in the corner for an unconverted try.
The Seasiders tried to come back in the closing stages but Haverfordwest were not to be denied their fifth win of the season and a satisfying victory over their old rivals.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Tenby welcome Gorseinon to Heywood Lane.
Tenby United fielded: Steve Williams, Darren Rees, Paul Luger, Gavin Brace, Steve Hartland, Bleddyn Evans, Dylan Lawrence, Dai Balkwill, Richard Rossiter (capt.), Lee Tucker. Paul Broaders, Ben Armstrong, Nicky Allen, Anthony Griffiths, Justin Richards.
