The search is on for a 'voice of the town' as Tenby Town Council are on the look-out for an assistant town crier to help with duties carried out by the current crier, John Thomas.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown explained to her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the council that, unfortunately, due to poor health, the town crier was unable to do a lot he'd like to do.
"John has done a fabulous job for over 20 years in a voluntary position that has been honoured in Tenby for a long time, and it would be nice if he could have an assistant to take on some of the shouting duties at events," said Clr. Mrs. Brown, who hoped that someone in the community would come forward.
Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane suggested a competition could be held to find a suitable candidate.
Clr. Mrs. Kerri Durham also wished to congratulate local children Mathew and Sammy, aged 11 and 10, who had dressed up voluntary during the summer to shout and ring bells for some events.
"They did a marvellous job and they will be back in the town on Saturday for the opening of the Tenby Arts Festival," said Clr. Mrs. Durham.
