Narberth's unsung heroes are to be recognised through a new People Award.

The award will honour the 'Good Samaritan' acts of one local resident every year.

The award is the brainchild of town councillor Wynne Evans and was given the thumbs up by fellow councillors at their meeting on Tuesday night.

"The award is not designed to be a pat on the back for a councillor or someone who is in paid employment, but for a child who looks after a disabled parent or a good neighbour who goes beyond the call of duty to look after someone," Clr. Evans explained.

Ballot boxes will be placed at various locations around the town inviting members of the public to nominate adults or children who live in the Narberth council's electoral wards.

The competition will then be judged by people from outside the town and the winner will be presented with a perpetual trophy and framed certificate at the annual Civic Lunch.

"There are lots of special people in the town, let's make them even more special," added Clr. Evans.
