All-round sports men and women in Pembrokeshire will have the chance to compete to become the county's individual sports superstar or to be a member of the winning super team in the first Pembrokeshire Superstars competition which will be held at Narberth Rugby Club on Sunday, August 12. In the afternoon, starting at 1.30 pm, invited teams of six will compete, with each team comprising three men and three women. The teams will include staff from Pembrokeshire leisure centres and selected teams from around the county. Speaking about the inaugural competition, Robert Lewis, Narberth Rugby Club's team manager, said: "The event has been organised in conjunction with Pembrokeshire Leisure and there will be representatives from all leisure centres and some sporting teams and we will see who has got the best team and who is the best individual all-round sportsman on display. "There will be 10 events, including 100 metres relay, gym tests, football dribbling, a basket ball challenge, power throwing, 600-metre relay, 2,000 metres on a rowing machine, a golf challenge, a sand bag relay and an obstacle course. "Pembrokeshire is well known for its potatoes, but we want it more widely known that Pembrokeshire sportsmen are not couch potatoes! "For instance, in rugby clubs throughout the county, including Narberth, 100 youngsters are involved in mini rugby each weekend and Pembrokeshire youngsters get fit playing sport. "The Superstars event should be great fun for all the family and there will be other entertainment on offer, including a barbecue, a rodeo, a bouncy castle, cross bar challenge, a golf challenge and much more. "In addition to the senior competition in the afternoon, there will be a morning session starting at 10 am for boys and girls in two age groups, for years seven and eight (12 and 13 year olds) and for years nine and ten (14 and 15 year olds). "Only 24 places are available in each category and entry forms can be obtained from Narberth Rugby Club by telephoning (01834) 860462."
