A new award sponsored by Pembrokeshire County Council is offered for the best painting by a young Pembrokeshire artist at the Tenby Open Art Competition this year. While this is the fifth Tenby Open Art Competition, this is the first time that a prize has been offered by the county council and this support and encouragement for young local artistic talent has been welcomed by the competition organisers. All the selected work will be exhibited for sale throughout the month of November at Art Matters Gallery in Tenby. To be eligible, the artist must live in Pembrokeshire or be based in Pembrokeshire if studying or working further afield, and be between 16 and 30 years old. Local sixth formers and college students are encouraged to enter as well as recent graduates and indeed anyone within the age group who feels moved to put brush or pencil to paper. All forms of two-dimensional art are welcome, except for digital or photographic work. The absolute deadline for entries is October 16. In addition to the Pembrokeshire Young Artist Award of £250, young entrants will also be eligible for all the other prizes in the competition, including the £1,000 first prize and a £250 voucher prize sponsored by Emrys Art Supplies, of Haverfordwest.
